With the ever increasing volume of health and safety legislation, it is difficult for those who manage construction sites to keep up to date.  The SMSTS is one of the most widely recognised courses developed to give Site Managers and Foremen a better understanding of their duties under the various sets of legislation.

This five day course is designed to provide attendees with the skills and knowledge to enable them to manage health and safety on site and to develop a better understanding of their moral and social responsibilities.  The course can be taken as a 5 day block or on a day realease over 5 weeks.

The course is very intensive, but enjoyable, with a comprehensive course programme that will give those attending a sound understanding of the legal requirements when managing contruction projects.

Who should attend the course?
This course has been designed for those who are responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and managing groups of staff and workforce on construction sites.

The people who would benefit from this course include site managers, project managers, agents, quantity surveyors, contracts managers, directors and supervisors as well as proprietors of smaller building companies.

Course Aims
To give delegates an understanding of their responsibilities for the health, safety and welfare of persons employed on, or affected by, construction works.

This industry recognised course is ideal for companies which need to meet the ever increasing demand for evidence of sound health and safety management on site.
Training & Assessment Methods The course will include tutorials, group exercises, continuous assessment and an end of course exam.

The course covers the Health and Safety at Work Act and Regulations relevant to the construction industry.  It includes site set-up, CDM, risk assessments / method statements, scaffolding, electricity, excavations, demolition and confined spaces as well as recent changes in accepted working practices.

The course is divided into 6 sections:

  • Section 1 - Introduction to health and safety responsibilities.

  • Section 2 – Managing health and safety at work.

  • Section 3 – Managers and supervisors.

  • Section 4 – Measuring, monitoring and auditing health and safety performance.

  • Section 5 – Information and training. Section 6 – Control of hazards and risks.
